Do you know of any technology tools developed in your regions and/or in the local language(s) with the aim to combat human trafficking?

These tech tools can be a simple mobile app informing potential trafficking victims of the risks of labour exploitation, or use more advanced technology such as geospatial information to track down fishing vessels engaged in illegal activity.

The Tech Against Trafficking (TAT) initiative, established by global technology companies and stakeholders with the aim to utilise technology to combat human trafficking and labour exploitation, has completed its first research phase. With the support of partner organisations, we were able to identify over 200 tools addressing human trafficking and related target groups. Among these tools, more than half were developed and are operating in the Global North, despite higher prevalence rates of human trafficking in the Global South. This might be partly due to our linguistic limitations. Therefore, we are searching for more technology tools developed and used in other languages than English in order to have a more comprehensive picture of the current gaps and challenges of technologies used in the field.

Please kindly write to Ms Livia Wagner livia.wagner@globalinitiative.net and Ms Thi Hoang thi.hoang@globalinitiative.net should you have information on potential tech tools. We are also more than happy to answer any questions or concerns via a phone call.

With kind regards,
Livia and Thi
The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (part of the TAT Research Lead)
